Oslo to Lillehammer at a glance
For Oslo to Lillehammer, the regional train RE10 is the simplest choice. It runs from Drammen and Oslo S via Oslo airport (Gardermoen), Eidsvoll, Hamar, Brumunddal and Moelv to Lillehammer, so most places on the east side of Lake Mjøsa are on the same line. The timetable below is valid from 10 August to 12 December 2026.
By car, the E6 is the main road and passes Mjøsbrua near Moelv. By bus, you can reach the Hafjell area in about three hours from Oslo. Once you are at the lake, the Lake Mjøsa road trip shows how the stops link up, and in summer the Skibladner paddle steamer timetable and tickets add a trip on the water.

Train, bus or car from Oslo
The three ways compared.
| Option | Route | Time | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Train RE10 | Oslo S or Oslo airport to Lillehammer via Hamar, Brumunddal and Moelv | About 2 h 11 min from Oslo S in the timetable example | Seat reservation is offered; the price depends on your journey |
| Bus VY146 | Oslo to Øyer, then a short walk to Hafjell | About 3 hours, plus about 10 minutes on foot | For Hafjell; not a replacement for the train to Lillehammer |
| Car | E6 over Mjøsbrua near Moelv | Varies | Tolls on the E6; the time depends on your starting point and traffic |
For most visitors, the train is the better choice: it runs straight from the airport, stops in the towns around the lake and leaves parking worries behind. Take the car if you plan the full loop around the lake or stay in a remote spot.

By train from Oslo to Lillehammer
The RE10 timetable valid from 10 August to 12 December 2026 shows the pattern. In the example, a train leaves Lillehammer at 09:15, reaches Hamar at 10:05 and leaves again at 10:11, arrives at Oslo airport at 11:03 and at Oslo S at 11:26. That is 2 hours 11 minutes from Lillehammer to Oslo S and 1 hour 48 minutes to the airport. Allow roughly the same in the other direction, and check your own departure, because not every train takes exactly as long.
Tickets are sold through a price search by journey rather than as one fixed fare, so there is no single price to quote for Oslo to Lillehammer. Seat reservations are offered on the RE10 and the RE30. Do not assume you must reserve; check the options when you buy.
