Domkirkeodden: what you can visit
Domkirkeodden is a museum on a headland on Lake Mjøsa in Hamar, around the ruins of the old cathedral. Two things are easy to mix up. The glass building over the ruins, called the Hamardom or glass cathedral, is closed for safety reasons with no reopening date. The museum is a separate visit with its own tickets and hours, and it is open.
In May 2026 a new history centre opened, Anno Domkirkeodden, at Strandvegen 100. If you plan a day in town, combine the museum with the other sights in Hamar, or look at the tours and things to do around Lake Mjøsa.

Domkirkeodden tickets and prices in 2026
Regular prices in NOK. A temporary discount applies while one hall is closed.
| Ticket | Price |
|---|---|
| Adult | NOK 170 |
| Student or concession with ID, and young adults 18 to 25 | NOK 145 |
| Child, 3 to 17 | NOK 75 |
| Child under 3, with a guardian | Free |
| Family, 2 adults with their own children | NOK 415 |
| Family, 1 adult with their own children | NOK 245 |
| Group of more than 10 paying together, per person | NOK 135 |
The museum's new exhibition hall is temporarily closed, and during this phase admission is reduced by 50 percent. That is a temporary offer, not a standard price, so the table shows the regular prices. For a family of two adults and two children, separate tickets come to NOK 490, so the family ticket at NOK 415 is cheaper. A single parent pays the same as for separate tickets with one child, and gains only from the second child.

The cathedral ruins and the closed glass cathedral
The ruins are what is left of the cathedral that gave the headland its name. Domkirkeodden means the cathedral point. The glass structure over the ruins is now closed on an unlimited basis for safety reasons, and there is no date for reopening.
Plan your visit on the assumption that you will not go inside the glass building. The museum, the grounds and the shore are still part of a visit. A guided tour of the history centre does not give access to the Hamardom either.
If this changes, the museum's own website is the place to confirm it before you travel.

Closed days

Storhamarlåven
The large barn is closed from September. In June it may be closed as well, so do not plan a visit to it for that month without checking first.
Anno Domkirkeodden, the new history centre
Anno Domkirkeodden opened on 28 May 2026 and lies at Strandvegen 100. An advance ticket is recommended but not required. Guided visits to the centre are offered at set times in some seasons. Check the current programme for the day you plan to go.
The history centre does not replace the glass cathedral. It is a separate visit about the place and its past.

Planning a visit to Domkirkeodden
Getting there, how long to stay and what to combine.
Getting there
Hamar is on the RE10 train line between Oslo and Lillehammer, so a day trip from Oslo works by train. See how to get from Oslo to Lillehammer and the lake for the route and times.
Combine with
The Norwegian Railway Museum lies at Strandvegen 161, on the same street as the history centre at number 100, and the Vikingskipet Olympic hall is in town too. Prices and hours for the railway museum are on the Hamar page.
At the water
The shore towards Domkirkeodden is a bathing spot. The town advises against swimming in green water, near outlets and in the first 24 hours after heavy rain.
